A woman with her two fists full of plastic bags brushed past me on my way out of the supermarket today. She wore a brown pantsuit , high heels, and fancy gold earrings. The automatic doors opened before her. I watched her steady herself  at the threshold and perform a slightly awkward dive. Walking up to the doors I looked out and down, and there she was; grocery bags trailing behind in the wind as she fell. Produce filled parachutes. Then I lost sight of her elegant nose dive behind drifting clouds.

The breeze ruffled my jacket and the plastic bags I was holding as I took in the scene. Stretched out miles below was the earth looking like a giant multigrain cracker, just waiting for some equally enormous mild cheddar. Above, to either side, and ahead was a great expanse of blue, spotted with white gently fluffy clouds.

"Ahem." A voice grunted behind me.

I turned to see a line gathering. It was lead by a rather plump graying man with a full grocery cart.  He was looking rather impatiently at me.

"Oh, sorry." I said as I stepped aside

The man  grunted again as he backed up a little, and began a quick lumbering run towards the door with his cart. His momentum carried him a short way out into the void before gravity took charge and he was lost to sight.

Waddling under the weight of his bags the next man nodded to me as he walked towards the doors that had just started to close. They jerked open resentfully, foiled in their purpose. Reaching the edge, the second man looked down for a moment and hopped feet first into space.

All alone, I figured that I might as well get going. I stepped up to the edge and stopped, my toes peaking over the precipice. I closed my eyes and slowly leaned forward into gravity.

I woke today feeling a little unusual.

Sitting up in my bed and looking around, I am sure there is something afoot...
